The Unsung Heroines: Navigating Life as the Mother of an Athlete

I never thought that life after the birth of my children, with all its beauty and challenges, would bring me to the point where I’d write on my blog about the mothers of athletes.

About what we truly experience behind the scenes of a family supporting a child with a big dream – to succeed in tennis.

About the daily sacrifices, the long journeys, the competitions that bring us both joy and tears. About the days when training consumes all our time and the nights when I wonder if I’ve done enough for him. About how the life of a mother intertwines with the role of being the coach's wife, trying to keep the family united in this whirlwind of emotions and sacrifices.

But also about the older sister, who watches everything from a corner of our busy family, wondering if her brother’s dream is more important than she is. About how I struggle to make her feel, every single day, that she is just as valuable, just as loved, and just as special, even though our life sometimes seems to revolve around tennis.

About how I have to explain to her that a mother’s love doesn’t divide, it multiplies. That even though her brother might get more attention at certain moments, she is and will always be an important part of our team. And about how I try to show her that her voice matters too, that her dreams will also have their own time and place in our family.

The role of a sports mom isn’t just about competitions or medals. It’s about balance. About learning to give each child the attention and support they need, to be there for everyone, even when time seems to be the biggest opponent.

I started writing on my blog because I felt alone on this journey. Because the mothers of athletes and their siblings are rarely seen, understood, or heard. But every story I share is a brick laid at the foundation of recognizing this unseen and yet essential role.

I never imagined that these words would reach so many mothers who, in turn, support their children’s dreams, in any field. Thank you for being here, for reading, and for sharing this journey full of emotions, challenges, and, sometimes, magic.
